About Me

Hey guys!  It's Yvette!

I'm the founder of Piecing It Real.  I've been quilting since 2001, when my best friend introduced me to it.  If you've never watched me on YouTube, then you don't know that I'm pretty much a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants kinda girl.  So right after she went home, my hubby and I went sewing machine shopping.  We had already done a bit of web surfing and I knew I wanted a Baby Lock.  And yes, we came home with a sewing machine.  A Baby Lock Ellure, to be exact.

The quilt shop where I bought my sewing machine offered free classes to learn how to use it.  The class was pretty basic and I decided to sign up for other classes that were offered.  Everyone was very nice, but it didn't feel like my crowd.  Ya know?

So I tried to learn a bunch of stuff on my own.  My quilt projects were very primitive in the beginning, much like everyone else.  But what I was missing was a quilting posse of my own.  My desire to quilt dwindled over time and became very sporadic.

Then we made the decision to move to Sydney, Australia for three years.  It was a career move for my hubby, but we both took away huge benefits.  But I digress.  My sewing machine made the trip with us.  Quilting in Australia was quite expensive and housing was not as spacious as it is here in the States.  So my lil Baby Lock was in a closet and only pulled out to sit on the dining room table occasionally.

Eventually we came back to the States.  And I have no idea why, but all of a sudden something had lit a fire under my booty to QUILT.  A LOT.

All of my friends had sort of moved on or away and I was quite lonely.  So I started my YouTube channel to make quilt-y friends.  I discovered Instagram.  I submersed myself into all sorts of new techniques and projects.  I made a lot of drawstring bags.

I saw other quilters posting pics of blocks with perfect seams in triangles, squares, semi circles, etc.  After asking around a bit, I learned that the technique was called Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP).  My perfectionist heart soared.  I set out to learn how to master FPP.  It wasn't easy.  I searched everywhere.  Watched every video I could find ... and there weren't many.

Fast forward to today and there is no FPP pattern I can't do.  And I can teach you to do the same.  Yes, you will need to do the work.  But hey, it's quilting!  It's all fun!  So if you have the desire to learn, then I can teach you.  I'm so happy you're here!

xoxo Yvette
